Rice à la Cubana (Cuban Rice)

Rice a la Cubana, which is known in Spain, is an adaption of Cuban rice. Chef Nando teaches you how to make it. It´s easy and very delicious

 

 


Ingredients (for 4 people):

 

  • 400g of round rice
  • 500g of tomato puree
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 bananas or plantains
  • ½ onion
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 4 teaspoons of sugar
  • Oil, salt, and water
  • Black pepper, bay leaves, and powdered cumin
  • Cooked ham (optional)

 

Preparation

 

Fry the rice in a frying pan with the garlic and bay leaves. Add water, a little more than double than that of rice, and also a little salt. Let it simmer for about 18-20 minutes, then take it and remove it.

 

To make the tomato sauce, fry a little of the onion in oil with a couple of pieces of garlic. Add the tomatoes, sugar, some salt, and cumin, and fry for about 15 minutes until the tomato is more dense and fried.

 

Fry the banana (or plantain) sliced in oil or butter, and the eggs in oil. Put all the ingredients atop the rice in an attractive way and eat!
